Storm clouds over dome? Leading Connecticut Democrats won’t rule out tax hikes

CT CapitalLeading Connecticut Democrats are not ruling out more tax hikes to solve the state’s growing budget deficits.

“I would say tax increases are not my first choice,” incoming House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz is quoted as saying in the Hartford Business Journal.  “I don’t like to take things off the table.”

Meanwhile, at a recent media event, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy stated he did not want “to be trapped into an answer” on tax hikes.  He does admit hiking taxes is not at the top of the list, as he works daily on his new budget proposal.

About to enter his seventh year in office, Malloy has hoisted two major tax hikes on the state during his tenure, but budget problems persist.
