U.S. Sen. Christopher Murphy is saying not so fast about the “Murphy for president” conversation. A University of Albany student has started a draft Murphy for president movement for 2020, but Murphy told reporters on Tuesday he would not consider a bid for the presidency. The young Democrat said his big goal is to win re-election to the senate in two years.
“This job to me is the honor of a lifetime and my intentions are only to be a great United States senator from Connecticut,” he said.
“I think there’s an opportunity for many of the younger leaders of this party to show some leadership…and I’m certainly interested in being part of that effort,” Murphy said. “I’m not interested in anything else.”
