U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy may have gotten his cause celeb signed into law after all. Jason Howerton of Independent Journal Review is reporting that, when President Obama signed the 2017 NDAA Act into law on Friday, it included Murphy’s and Sen. Rob Portman’s ‘Disinformation’ Provision.
“By the stroke of Obama’s pen,” Howerton writes, “the Countering Disinformation and Propaganda Act also became law as it was included in the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act.”
Murphy and Portman introduced the disinformation bill, but it was later tucked away into the act. Murphy contends “the use of propaganda to undermine democracy has hit a new low,” but critics argue the act will curb free speech.
