House Minority Leader Themis Klarides made it quite clear in a Hartford Courant article on Sunday, it is unlikely state tax hikes to save struggling cities like Hartford will happen.
“Strong cities are an important base for any state. Having said that, I don’t see how raising taxes is a plausible option to any of this. Helping a city that gets so much funding to start…just to have to give them more money, I don’t see it as a viable solution,” said the top Republican in the state House.
Klarides’ counterpart, incoming Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz, said he could be open to a sale tax hike to help cities.
