Opening Day at the Connecticut General Assembly

CT Capitol

CT CapitolThe Connecticut General Assembly convenes a new session today, amidst intrigue and a tightening of the balance of power.  Facing a massive deficit of over $3 billion in the next two years, the legislature will have more balance, as the majority Democrats witness a slippage in power, following last November’s election.

For the first time in 125 years, the state Senate will be evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans, while the Democrats edge in the House has been narrowed to seven seats.

The session gets underway at 10:00 AM, with Governor Dannel P. Malloy scheduled to address the two chambers at noon.
