Hartford Courant columnist and former state lawmaker Kevin Rennie sacked the UConn football program big time in his latest Sunday column. Rennie not only fumed over the $3.4 million buyout given to coach Bob Diaco but also lambasted the school for the hiring of Randy Edsall and his son to replace him. That’s right, his son.
Under Edsall’s contract to return to the school to coach football, his son Corey must also be offered a job by the university. Rennie writes:
“His (Edsall’s) contract stipulates that the university shall offer Edsall’s son Corey a job. This is an extraordinary leap into nepotism. It soils the integrity of the UConn administration and reminds us that the board of trustees is spineless.”
Rennie called UConn’s attempt to upgrade its football program to Division I a “failure.”
