First it was Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst. Now the Yankee Institute has joined the effort to publicize mileage expense accounts for Connecticut state lawmakers. Herbst brought the issue to light, when he noted that lawmakers include their reimbursements to calculate their pensions.
According to the conservative think tank, 14 of the top 15 mileage accounts were held by Democrats. Bridgeport Rep. Jack Hennessey racked up the most money over a 12-month period, getting reimbursed $14,557. Sen. Mae Flexer of Killingly was reimbursed $11,920.
The only Republican on the list was state Senate leader Len Fasano, who was reimbursed $6,256.
