Are Democrats supporting privatized social services?

Are Democrats in the Connecticut General Assembly supporting some privatization of social services?  When nonprofit human services providers suggested they could save taxpayers money by taking over some of the services operated by state government, one Democratic state representative did not rule it out.

“Everything has to be on the table,” said state Rep. Catherine Abercrombie, D-Meriden and co-chair of the legislature’s Human Services Committee.

Predictably, union leaders scoffed at the notion the state should look to privatization to solve its budget predicament.
