Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is proposing that cities and towns share in the cost of funding the public school teachers’ pension fund. Currently, state taxpayers underwrite the entire cost of the fund, but the governor is proposing that the towns share in the cost of underwriting the pension. He will announce details in his state budget address on Wednesday.
Of course, transferring the cost to municipalities could lead to property tax hikes, unless the cities and towns cut spending in other areas.
